Keep Georgetown Beautiful
Litter
Litter: people start it. People can stop it.
Iron Eyes Cody, long-time spokesperson for Keep America Beautiful
DID YOU KNOW that household garbage is one of the leading causes of litter in the City of Georgetown? Overflowing garbage containers cause a littering problem that doesn't stay put, but gets moved by animals, wind, rain, and traffic to spread throughout our city.
What Can YOU do?
CALL THE CITY'S LITTER HOTLINE 545-4887 (54-LITTR) available 24 hours a day. If you see littering from a vehicle, report the license number and color of the vehicle and the date, time and location of the incident. To report illegal dumping, record the date, time, location and a description of the problem.
Trash Troopers
The fifth graders of Georgetown are being inducted into the Trash Trooper program. They learn the sources of litter, grapple with the question of personal responsibility, and take direct action using the City's Litter Hotline to report littering.
Zero Tolerance For Litter
Each year law enforcement agencies across South Carolina hold a special Zero Tolerance weekend for littering. Sponsored by the SC Litter Control Association, Palmetto Pride and Keep America Beautiful, this program recognizes enforcement agencies who are pro-active in enforcing the laws requiring motorists to take responsibility for the items they carry in their vehicles.
